The very short answer is that a typical student will spend somewhere between $14,000 –
$20,000 to become a private pilot. The cost largely depends on how many hours it will
take you to complete you training. It’s different for everyone. This short video will help
you understand the pricing.
If you train at least 2 times each week, it generally takes 6-9 months. As you train less
frequently, you’ll also begin to have retention issues and will be spending more time
reviewing things instead of learning new material.
You can purchase a Discovery Flight online. Go to the page by clicking HERE.
Once the flight is purchased, we will contact you and put you on the schedule.
Your training is done one-to-one, with an instructor. You will have flight lessons, where you train in the airplane with your instructor, and you will have ground lessons, where your instructor will work with you in a classroom setting.
You do not need to be a US citizen to take flying lessons in the USA. However, if you do not have a valid/current US Passport, an official copy of a US Birth Certificate OR a Naturalization Certificate, you must obtain an authorization to begin flight training through the Alien Flight Student Program (AFSP). A Green Card (Permanent Resident Card) is not sufficient.
I’ve been taking lessons at Tailwinds Flight Education for approximately 1 year and have to say that I absolutely love this school. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and explain things in a way that is easy to comprehend. I have a very busy schedule between a law enforcement career, home life, and being a Guardsman in the Airforce. Howard’s flexibility and motivation is greatly appreciated and shows that he and his staff truly care about my progression. I had taken lessons at another flight school in the past and can now see how many things were overlooked. I highly recommend this school to anyone who is seeking to make a career out of flying or simply to enjoy life on another level. Being in control of flying is an experience that is very uplifting and the confidence that it builds not only assists me with my comfort level when flying but also extends into my personal life. I am very thankful for all that Tailwinds has taught me and for providing the motivation to keep striving for more.

I started my flight training at another school and decided I needed a change. A friend with the hanger next to Howard suggested I look into Tailwinds and I've never looked back. Friendly experienced staff and well maintained aircraft make this a great place to learn to fly. The other benefit is training at a towered airport, it really gives you the full experience and helps sharpen your radio skills.

Has to be hands-down one of the most competent flight schools I’ve ever had the opportunity to deal with. From the owner to the instructors everybody is 100% on board and truly concerned about your safety and your education instead of just making a buck
